After 24 years of being absent in
the console-making industry, Atari is now back in the game!
The last time Atari
released a console was back in 1993, the Jaguar. Introducing the Ataribox, it
has four USB ports, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, and a network cable port.
The console was initially teased last month as “a new Atari console” is being developed.
It features ribbed black plastic, a
callback to old Atari consoles. There are two versions, one with a wood front
and one with black glass.
According to Atari, the box will be
delivering classic gaming content, and also will be delivering current gaming
content. Since there is no cartridge port, this will suggest emulation of
games. Now, we’re not sure if the company is targeting to make current-gen
competitor with the likes of PS4 and Xbox One. Somehow, this could be something
that would really be enjoyable to play the retro exclusive games from the past
Atari consoles and also some new Atari titles.
The specs and other details are a
bit shallow right now as they acknowledge that they want to get this right and
share information step by step. They will listen carefully to fan feedback as
they do so.
So what do you think about the
Ataribox? Are you excited to see what will Atari bring to the current mix of
games we are playing? Let us know what you think in the comments!
